Job overview

The post holder has responsibility for the daily management of the department  which involves coordinating patient care, timely and appropriate interventions and  deployment of staff to provide a high standard of nursing care to all ED patients. o Has continuing first line management responsibility for a team of nursing and  support staff managing sickness and absence and ensuring team members have  identified development needs and a development plan. o The post holder will also provide a clinical nursing service, demonstrating through  practice, the desired model of care for all grades of nursing staff. As a senior  clinical nurse, the team leader is responsible for the assessment of care needs,  the development, implementation and evaluation of family centred programmes of  care and is accountable for the quality of care delivered within the department  environment by the department nursing team. o Works collaboratively and co-operatively with the ED Matron and Head of Nursing  to develop services and takes responsibility for implementing the nursing strategy  for ED. o Takes responsibility for co-ordinating and ensuring timely responses to clinical  incidents and complaint

Main duties of the job

  • Act as a role model and support for junior staff and act as a senior resource for expert clinical advice when dealing with issues such as child protection concerns, deteriorating patient.
  • Continually monitor standards of care and lead the improvement of care. Be responsible for benchmarking, audit and research within the department and encourage a culture of shared governance.
  • Promote and maintain a culture of patient and staff incident reporting in accordance with Trust Guidelines.
  • Be responsible for planning and implementing care and act in a supervisory role to junior staff. Develop and implement standards of care and practice within the department and ensure they are maintained and monitored consistently.
  • Maximise best use of clinical resources, monitor and evaluate patient flow, admission and discharge arrangements, take responsibility for initiating improvements
  • Be responsible for effective communication within team and department, disseminate team brief and other relevant information
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary teams regarding the care of patients, participate in case conferences as required and ensure effective communication when dealing with child protection concerns.
