Job overview

We are looking to recruit a Band 5 registered nurse to join our nursing team in our busy Ophthalmic Outpatient department at Tunbridge Wells  Hospital. We are part of a large specialty, comprising of the main Ophthalmic Outpatients and Day Surgery units at Maidstone, with smaller units at The Tunbridge Wells Hospital and Medway Hospital.

The unit is open Monday to Saturday 07.00-18.30 so applicants will be required to work a 6 day working pattern.

You will be working predominately in the Ophthalmic Outpatients supporting the team with various sub-specialty clinics, Rapid Access Clinic for urgent care and general clinics. Recent developments include nurse led virtual clinics, a commitment to ongoing training and research.

Previous experience working in Ophthalmology, would be an advantage. Recent experience of IV Cannulation, IV drugs and Medical device Training is desirable but a willingness to undertake training will be supported.

Main duties of the job

The Ophthalmic Outpatients Unit at Tunbridge Wells is a very busy department providing care for patients attending general and specialist ophthalmology clinics and undergoing sight-saving procedures. We are the hub of a large ophthalmology service based over several sites.

Ophthalmic knowledge, although desirable is not essential. We are looking for is a dynamic individual who is keen to develop professionally. You will have the opportunity to gain ophthalmic knowledge and skills to enhance their clinical practice and career pathway.

Following your corporate induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email [email protected] if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.
