Principal Psychotherapist or Clinical/Counselling Psychologist

Job overview

Come and work with us at the Ash Eton Therapeutic Community (TC) in Folkestone. We have an exciting opportunity for a professionally registered and experienced Psychotherapist or Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join us. As an analytically trained clinician, who brings experience in conducting therapeutic groups for adults with complex emotional needs, you will also have experience of working within, or lived experience of being a member of a therapeutic community, and/or bring experience of using a trauma-informed group therapy model.

Ash Eton TC is an established therapeutic community and a full member of the Community of Communities quality improvement and accreditation programme at the Royal College of Psychiatrists. We are actively engaged in peer reviews of other TCs around the country, and are also a member of The Consortium of Therapeutic Communities (TCTC), and regularly present at conferences. We continue to develop our practice, including MBT, adding to our programme of verbal and non-verbal therapies, including drama therapy, art psychotherapy, and occupational therapy.

Main duties of the job

This role will involve advising on appropriate referrals, alongside supervision and case consultations. You will offer assessment and out-patient psychodynamic psychotherapy groups, the initial treatment phase before service users join the main TC programme. In addition to this, you will co-facilitate small group psychotherapy in the TC, and join community meetings.  Furthermore, you will have opportunities to develop co-produced lecturing and training roles.

You will be committed to an analytic frame of a democratic TC, upholding our relational practice values and principles, including co-production and inclusivity. You will be capable of working with transference processes involved in working within this demanding environment. You will also have the capacity to remain reflective and process the complex dynamics that can emerge in both team and community dynamics. You will be confident in managing a caseload of clients with complex needs who may present with significant risk. You will have the ability to organise and plan your workload so that priorities are attended to and quality standards are maintained. You will also have acquired the necessary experience and skills to deputise for the team or clinical lead as required, and to support them and the operational lead in the day-to-day running of the service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Manage a caseload of approximately 16 patients in treatment.

Effectively manage the pathway into treatment so that group spaces are used optimally and waiting times are minimised.
