Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Liverpool & North Mersey Diabetic Eye Screening department for the role of Specialist Screener.

Applicants will be expected  to screen and grade eligible people with diabetes in the Liverpool and North Mersey Diabetic Eye Screening Programme cohort according to national standards as specified in: NHS public health functions agreement 2019-20 (england.nhs.uk)

Perform specialised screening and grading of patients on surveillance pathways

Provide clinical supervision and support to the screening team

Provide retinal screening / grading teaching and workplace assessment of staff undertaking the Level 3 diploma for health screeners

Act as team leader with first line management responsibilities

Ensure business continuity of the screening service

Carry responsibility for the upkeep of screening equipment

Main duties of the job

Provide retinal screening and grading at primary, secondary and arbitration levels

Perform specialised screening and grading of patients on the digital surveillance with optical coherence tomography (OCT) pathway

Sole responsibility for the assessment of patients of all ages, abilities and wide-ranging communication abilities, tailoring the delivery of care as required

Provide a screening service within secure venues e.g. HMP or secure hospitals

Act as a key point of contact for the screening team, providing clinical advice, options and support when delivering care to patients on a daily basis.

Attend regular meetings to discuss service delivery, providing feedback on any issues, incidents or risks escalated by the screening team

Oversee the daily running of the screening service, ensuring business continuity through liaison with the administration team

Assist the Programme manager in forward planning to ensure the screening service is compliant with national standards and quality assurance and key performance indicators are met

Provide technical support to screening staff, assisting in issues relating to camera or IT failure

Undertake other administrative duties as specified by the programme manager
