Job overview

This post provides administrative, surveillance and audit support to the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Team. It involves close working with the Specialist Nurses with supervision from the IPC Nurse Team Lead and using initiative to undertake the duties required to deliver an effective IPC Service. The role includes:

  • Interrogation of surveillance databases e.g. the Trust’s Tendable system to identify themes and trends in IPC audits undertaken by the team.
  • Keeping the IPC tracker database for cases of Alert organisms up to date and identifying increases and trends in HCAI, providing accurate daily information regarding patients and their infectious status to the team.

Undertake monthly Tendable IPC Department audits as part of an annual audit focusing on the environment

Main duties of the job

  • Interrogate surveillance systems e.g. Tendable and IPC Tracker identifying trends and themes in HCAI using initiative and escalate findings to the Team Lead. Producing written reports including graphs for the monthly IPC team meetings.
  • Provide a comprehensive administrative service to the IPC team, including the production of reports, posters, and undertaking minutes of Team meetings.
  • Input accurate surveillance data of HCAI’s onto the DCS system for Public Health England as part of a national database.
  • Organise own workload prioritising deadlines to meet the teams requirements and priorities.
  • Use the Trust’s information systems e.g. PCS as well as Microsoft Office including Excel and Word.
  • Create and produce time lines and graphs if an outbreak of an infection on a ward occurs these are required for Trust wide outbreak meetings.
  • Assist with the organisation and administration of study events, e.g. IPC Champions, Fit Testing sessions.
  • Be the first point of contact for the Nursing Team when they are not in the office dealing with initial enquiries whether verbal or written and exercising judgement as to the appropriate response and taking immediate action if necessary.
