Job overview

An exciting position has arisen within our community Speech and Language Therapy Team (SLT) with Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust. There are two parts to this role - firstly, it offers an opportunity to be the SLT Team lead for the friendly and supportive SLT team in Northallerton and secondly you will provide highly specialist skills to work clinically with this complex and diverse adult community caseload.

You will provide operational leadership and service management  to the team and work closely with the SLT  leadership team at HDFT . You will provide direct line management for several members of the team, and will deputise for the SLT professional and management lead as required.

Clinically, you will provide highly specialist assessment and treatment to  wide range of adult neurology patients. This will be both in our outpatient clinic based at the Friarage Hospital and also in patient's own homes. It also provides opportunities to work with complex dysphagia, dysfluency and voice, and other complex presentations that arise.

There is a monthly videofluoroscopy clinic so videofluoroscopy skills are therefore highly desirable. This role could provide an amazing opportunity for you to train and acquire skills for this instrumental assessment or to further develop in this area. MBSImP has recently been introduced at HDFT.

Main duties of the job

The post will enable you to develop highly specialist skills within a supportive team structure, with regular supervision and the opportunity to contribute to the development of the service.

The role includes:

  • Being the team lead and providing leadership to the H & R Adult SLT team
  • Attending the monthly quality of care meetings with the team leads and managers from the wider teams, and ensuring there is governance within the team
  • Leading on service development and clinical effectiveness
  • Deputising for the Adult SLT Manager/Professional Lead as required
  • Line management of team members
  • Providing clinical supervision
  • Assessment and treatment of adult neurology patients with communication and swallowing needs
  • Assessment and treatment of patients with dysfluency or voice difficulties as competent to do so
  • Providing support, supervision, training and line management of SLT/SLTAs as required
  • Undertaking assessment and treatment of patients on The Rutson Rehab unit, outpatient clinics and inpatient and domiciliary visits to patient's home and also care homes.
  • Attending monthly videofluoroscopy clinic and training in this area as required
