Based at Liverpool Women's Hospital (LWH) with collaboration across the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUFT) and other local hospitals, the successful candidate will deliver specialist care, performing complex surgeries and contributing to the department's growth as a centre of excellence in pelvic and peritoneal cancer management.
The post holder will also participate in the multidisciplinary team (MDT), working closely with colorectal, urology, and robotic surgery colleagues to deliver high-quality, innovative cancer care. In addition to direct clinical responsibilities, the Consultant will lead on service development, governance, and education, including training for clinical staff and involvement in research. They will ensure adherence to clinical guidelines, participate in on-call rota coverage, and contribute to the continuous professional development of the Gynaecological Oncology service. The role offers significant opportunities for shaping the future of gynaecological oncology in Liverpool and the surrounding regions.

The successful candidate will be part of the team shaping the future strategy of the Gynaecological Oncology service in Liverpool. Working in collaboration with LUFT Hospital the successful candidate will participate in complex major cancer surgery with full access to Intensive Care, Colorectal, Urology, Imaging and Medical Speciality support. There are currently regular scheduled theatre lists on both LUFT Hospital sites with weekly joint operating sessions with peritoneal, colorectal and other surgical colleagues. There is a robot exclusively for gynaecological surgery in LWH and access to the robot in LUFT by arrangement for high risk patients.
This is a substantive post in Surgical Gynaecological Oncology. The Gynaecological Oncology department is currently based at Liverpool Women’s Hospital Foundation Trust (LWH), however there are strong links with the neighbouring LUFT Hospital (Royal Site).

The Gynaecological Oncology department supports a population base of 2.4 million covering Merseyside, Cheshire, the Isle of Man and parts of North Wales. With over 500 cancer referrals each year, the Liverpool Women’s Hospital is one of the five busiest centres in England. The current workforce is five subspecialist consultants and two Gynaecologists with a special interest in Oncology.
We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic applicant to join the current Gynaecological Oncology department and to work with us to achieve our aim of creating a surgical centre of excellence in pelvic and peritoneal cancer management.
