This a fantastic opportunity to join the Consultant & Specialist Doctor team at Harrogate Emergency Department. The department has seen significant investment in 2022/23 leading to a clinically-led rebuild and expansion of the senior clinician teams. This, along with our strong continuous improvement ethos has seen significant improvements in performance, workforce and patient satisfaction.  The region’s trainees will often place us top of their rotation request! Main duties of the job

To work with Consultant colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure that the team and department delivers a high quality, well led service for Emergency patients attending Harrogate & District Foundation Trust.

We are looking for an exceptional individual who has the ability, skills and vision to support and lead our excellent team of junior doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and administrative staff to improve our services to the benefit of patients and colleagues working within the Emergency department.

Our Type 1 care is based at Harrogate Hospital (~55,000 attendances) and we also have a satellite MIU for Type 3 care in nearby Ripon.  There will be 9.4WTE Consultants/Specialist Doctors working 14.5hrs per day, 16 WTE Tier 3 Clinicians and a combination of Tier 1 clinicians, Tier 2 clinicians, ACPs and clinical fellows delivering the rest of the rota. We have a hugely popular and successful CESR programme and our SAS community is thriving. We hold a strong culture of continuous improvement and you will find QI work being completed throughout the team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To provide clinical responsibility for patients under his/her care when working in the ED or when on-call. This includes direct care of patients and supervision of medical staff.
  • To provide leadership for the Trauma Team.
  • To share in the training and development of nursing, medical and other staff groups where appropriate
  • To be actively involved in the management, supervision and training of junior medical staff
  • To take an active role in departmental clinical governance including risk management, risk reporting procedures, audit, and guideline/procedure development/implementation
  • To contribute to ED service delivery, including–
  • Education and training delivery –formal and informal
  • Medical and ACP workforce educational and clinical supervision
  • Support the Minors Care Stream including clinical supervision of Urgent Care Practitioners
  • Development and application of clinical guidelines and policies
  • Quality Improvement/ Clinical audit/evidence based practice/research
