The post is suitable for a newly qualified physiotherapist as an Annex 21 (progression to band 6 on completion of competencies) or an existing band 5/6 wishing to specialise in respirator care.

Knowsley Community Respiratory Service (KCRS) provides support for people in the borough of Knowsley for a wide variety of chronic respiratory disease. The service provides community diagnostics and multi-professional consultant lead clinics, admission avoidance, pulmonary rehabilitation, home oxygen services, palliative support, smoking cessation and psychology support. The service is an award winning service with a good track record of supporting staff to develop and progress.

Main duties of the job

This varied post covers the following main areas:

  • Delivery and running of pulmonary rehabilitation services, including assessment of new patients, exercise prescription and progression and education session.
  • Input into the Admission Avoidance service - this includes management of acute chest clearance, management of acute exacerbations of COPD and bronchiectasis.
  • Issuing of PGD's to support acute management and to avoid hospital admissions
  • Routine chest clearance assessment and treatments
  • Breathlessness management assessment and treatment, including management of breathing pattern disorders
  • Assessment and prescription of ambulatory oxygen
  • Nebuliser challenges - including hypertonic saline and antibiotics
