Registered Nurse Associate- Theatres

Job overview

We are seeking Registered Nursing Associates to work within our Main Theatre and Day Surgery Operating Theatre Teams.

The post holder is responsible for the provision of high quality, patient focused care as a member of the operating department team, based on the assessment of each individual patient’s needs.

Nursing Associates will adhere to Nursing and Midwifery code of Conduct for Nurse, Midwives and Nursing Associates and work within their scope of practice following the professional professional standards of practice  and behaviours for nurses, midwives, and nursing associates and the standards of proficiency for nursing associates. This also includes the Perioperative Care Collaborative position statement on The Role of the Nursing Associate in the Surgical Care Team.

Integral to this role is the ability to communicate effectively with sensitivity and compassion and to manage relationships with people making reasonable adjustments where necessary.

Main duties of the job

As a Registered Nurse Associate in the operating theatre, you will:

  • Act in the best interest of the patients and their families
  • Put people first and provide nursing care that is person centred, safe and compassionate
  • Act professionally at all times and in line with organisations trust values and behaviours
  • Use knowledge and and experience to make evidence-based decisions and solve problems
  • Recognise and work within limits of their competence as defined by the NMC standards of proficiency, Theatre Operating Policy and PCC position statement on the role of the Nursing Associate in the Surgical Care Team
  • Be able to identify own role boundaries
  • Be responsible for own actions and omissions and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Maintain a level of continuing professional development relevant to your role within the operating theatre
  • Practice as a safe and effective member of the surgical team in the scrub and circulator roles once competent
