Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic highly motivated Ward clerk to join the forward thinking team in the new Day Treatment Centre (DTC). The DTC consists of an admission area, 4 operating theatres, a day case assessment area and recovery suite.

This is an exciting new opportunity for an individual who is dedicated to improving patient care. We are looking for a reliable and highly organised individual who has excellent communication skills. You must also be able to demonstrate an adaptable, enthusiastic approach to your work, and the ability to manage your workload with various competing demands for your attention within a busy clinical area. You must be able to be courteous, respectful and helpful at all times as you will be primarily responsible for the reception area and greeting patients in the DTC. We are looking for someone who can work independently as a Ward Clerk whilst integrating into the wider MDT.

This centre will enable our teams to carry out thousands of additional low complexity procedures in specialties such as musculoskeletal health (MSK), urology, surgery and some cardiothoracic services, and as such this role is busy yet rewarding job.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity to join our team to help provide efficient support for day case surgeries from multiple specialties. Our Ward clerks provides an invaluable service to the patients and team in the Day Treatment Centre. Basic IT knowledge is essential. Previous experience with e-record and working within a ward clerk environment is desirable. Training will be provided for use on the systems used within the directorate.

The role involves providing a front line clerical service to clinical staff within the ward, ensuring an appropriate standard of support is delivered in a timely manner. You will provide a meet and greet service to visitors, patients and staff. A key responsibility for the post holder is to ensure the timely and accurate inputting of data is captured for all admissions, transfers and discharges of patients. Additional duties will include stock ordering, supporting the nursing team and bed management team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To provide and maintain efficient and effective administrative support to the Ward Sister/ Charge Nurse and multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to the delivery of a consistently high standard of patient care as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ensures case notes, investigations, X-rays and results are available for new admissions, ward rounds and multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  • To ensure that case notes are correctly maintained following departmental guidelines and compliance with legislation (Caldicott Guidelines etc). Ensuring PAS system is up to date and accurate.
  • Registration of new patients and all confidential information relevant to same.
