Job overview

The post holder will support the UNISON Branch – South Western Ambulance and Allied Health - in all matters relating to union activity, providing support and administrative services.

This will include providing information to UNISON members, staff and managers on an ad-hoc basis in matters relating to UNISON activity and being required to handle and process confidential and delicate information in a sensitive manner.

The post-holder is not expected to act as an accredited representative, advising on cases or attending formal meetings on behalf of members.

Main duties of the job

This role requires you to support the work of the UNISON Branch Secretaries such as assisting in the development and maintenance of plans, strategies, receiving and capturing information from members to support branch activities.  You will act as the first point of contact for UNISON member queries arriving by phone or email.

You will need to provide regular updates to the branch management group (BMG) of matters pending as well as membership, using the appropriate systems.  There will be a requirement to maintain and use the UNISON communication distribution platform (WARMS).  You will also need to facilitate and assist in the communication issued to UNISON representatives, members and others identified by the BMG.

Attention to detail is imperative as you will be expected to assist in monitoring the progress of specific case activities and notify the Branch Secretaries of any issues arising appropriately.  You will also be involved in  the review of existing documentation and provision of advice and guidance to ensure the branch meets its obligations relating to all aspects of its membership.  You will be  supporting meetings, by taking accurate minutes, notifying the BMG of any outstanding actions, ensuring associated documents are provided and providing accurate membership data.

You will need to have a high level of interpersonal skills including empathy, motivation, listening skills, questioning skills and the ability to build effective relationships across the Trust.
