Job overview

To provide administrative support to the Clinical Sub-Deans for Cambridge Medical Students and Hub Lead (Northern Hub), Medical Education Manager, and Cambridge Medical School.

The post holder will provide high-level administrative support for the delivery of the Cambridge Medical School undergraduate curriculum for medical students on placement to the Trust. The post holder will also be expected to assist with the wider Postgraduate Medical and Dental agenda.

In 2015 a revised curriculum was introduced by Cambridge Medical School. This new curriculum places a far greater importance on longer clinical placements in teaching partner hospitals from the start of the clinical phase of the medical curriculum. Hospitals across the East of England who take Cambridge Medical Students are in one of three hubs according to locality. Peterborough City Hospital is the major teaching centre for the Northern Hub. Students are assigned to a teaching hub for an academic year, moving between teaching hubs over the three years of the Clinical Course.

An outcome of the new curriculum is increased numbers of students in the clinical years of the course, resulting in increased numbers on existing placements to Peterborough City Hospital together with the introduction of new placements.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:-

  • Be responsible for informing consultants of placements (dates and numbers) of Cambridge medical students,
  • Develop and review the complex teaching timetables using the Clinical School Aide Memoir (including clinical, skills laboratory and classroom sessions) to ensure that they meet the requirements of each placement/year against the expectations set out by Cambridge Medical School specialty leads

  • Organise and participate in the running, review and development of the induction sessions for Cambridge medical students on placement to this Trust

  • Being the first point of contact for queries from Cambridge Medical Students
