Job overview

We are looking for ideal candidates to join our existing team of Dispensary Assistants at Wansbeck General Hospital (WGH)  The successful candidate will be undertaking activities at ward level but also within the pharmacy department, who contribute to the efficient and effective delivery of medicines to patients e.g. medicines supple and dispensing medication.

The post will be based at WGH but the post holder may be required to work at other sites within the Trust. Weekend cover will be based at NTGH to support the 7 day clinical service to the Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH).

An NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services is desirable, however, if not held then you will be expected to achieve this within 12 months. Previous experience in a similar post would be desirable but it is not essential.

This post falls within the provisions of Agenda for Change Annex 20 - Development of Professional Roles, whereby upon completion of an agreed set of competencies you may move onto the next pay band without the need for an application for a post at a higher level.

To contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive and modern ward pharmacy service. Undertaking activities predominantly within the pharmacy department which contribute to the efficient and effective delivery of medicines to patients e.g. medicines supply, drug administration, and dispensing medication.

To communicate routine information with other healthcare staff to ensure that a safe and effective system of supply of medicines is maintained to patients.

To communicate routine information with patients/ carers concerning their medicines which may include to patients with communication difficulties.
