Main duties of the job

To assist the acute teams within T&O in the provision of an effective and efficient Therapy Service. This includes Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist.

To carry out  therapy programmes with patients in out-reach services (main aspect of role within the patient’s home) and ward setting.

To be able to drive in order to undertake care in patient’s home.

To assist the Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapist with administrative duties, including ordering equipment, record keeping plus data inputting.

To carry out rehabilitation programmes for patients with both Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy

To carry out housekeeping duties as required by the department.

To be part of the 7 day service provision for the T&O wards.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

A wonderful opportunity has arisen for a patient focused Assistant Therapist, working with Trauma and Orthopaedic patients.

The role entails assisting both the Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist in supervising therapy programmes for patients  before (wards) and after discharge (in the patient home).

A car driver is required for this role, as the main aspect of the role is providing therapy within the patient's home.

To treat and provide quality care to patients as delegated by the responsible therapist  within agreed protocols and treatment plans, as documented by the qualified staff.

Work unsupervised to implement appropriate treatment plans as designated by a senior therapist. Treatment should be delivered in the most appropriate location for the client, adjusting own clinical interventions based on the patients’ fluctuating needs.

To assist in the organisation and supervision of the work undertaken by Band 2 Therapy Assistants/Technical Instructors under instruction (as applicable).

Carry out assessments and treatments of patients with varying degrees of disability on a daily basis, using moderate physical effort. This may involve moving and handling patients and equipment.
