You will help provide a high standard of care to patients under going surgical procedures, assisting in the department work load and delivering a quality service in a professional manner.

To work in all areas within or associated in the department on a rotational basis.

To carry out assigned duties within the Operating Department involving the direct care of patients, as required in support of the Registered Health Care Professional.

To carry out delegated specific and unsupervised duties in support of the Operating Department, including general housekeeping duties as required.

To assist with the preparation of the area for the operating schedule, including equipment checks where appropriate.

To support and assist the Registered Health Care Professional during surgical, anaesthetic and recovery procedures.

To assist in the preparation and disposal of instruments and equipment and general housekeeping of the stores and theatre environment.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.0 Clinical

1.1    To work in all areas within or associated in the department on a rotational basis.

1.2    To carry out assigned duties within the Operating Department involving the direct care of patients, as required in support of the Registered Health Care Professional.

1.3    To carry out delegated specific and unsupervised duties in support of the Operating Department, including general housekeeping duties as required.

1.4    To assist with the preparation of the area for the operating schedule, including equipment checks where appropriate.

1.5   To support and assist the Registered Health Care Professional during surgical, anaesthetic and recovery procedures.

1.6   To assist in the preparation and disposal of instruments and equipment and general housekeeping of the stores and theatre environment.

1.7   To assist in maintaining a safe environment for staff, patients and visitors, reporting any untoward incidents, accidents or potential hazards to the nurse in charge.

1.8   To provide assistance in the transportation of patients, equipment, goods and instruments to and from the operating theatres/wards/other departments.

1.9    To ensure that specimens are transported in a timely, efficient and safe manner to the laboratory.

1.10          To contribute to effective communication with the multi-disciplinary team.

1.11          To contribute to the quality of patient care during surgical, anaesthetic and recovery procedures, in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures.

1.12          To assist in the maintenance of appropriate legible and correct records, ensuring such information is kept securely and out of reach of unauthorised persons.

1.13          To participate in all duty rotas i.e. night shift/late shift/early   shift/weekend/bank holidays.

1.14          To perform any other duties as delegated by Registered Health Care Professionals, which are deemed to come within the scope of this post.

2.0 Managerial

2.1 To contribute to the efficient and effective stock control and management of resources

2.2 To date-check all instruments/trays on a regular basis

3.0 Educational and Training

3.1      To undergo and successfully complete the Operating Department’s Induction Programme.

3.2      To participate in the orientation and induction of students and staff to the Operating Department   as appropriate.

3.3        Participate in the staff appraisal process

3.4        To take responsibility for own personal developments

4.0     Professional

4.1  To act as an ambassador for the clinical environment and the Trust, where appropriate, by promoting a professional image of a Theatre Support Worker.
