Bradbury House (Health Respite in Coventry) Staff nurses provide holistic clinical care to children and young people with a learning disability with complex care including behaviours of concern.

We develop robust and trusting relationships with  families to give them a break from their caring responsibilities whilst also supporting them in a multi disciplined approach with other professionals.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will assist the Manager in delivering a 24-hour Nurse led respite/enhanced support service. They will work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive care plans and care packages. The post holder will mostly work without direct supervision and they will be responsible for leading and supporting the team in providing good quality care.

An adaptable and flexible approach is required due to frequent changing needs of the SU/CYP and service delivery.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Provide holistic care for Children/Young people (CYP) with a Learning Disability and/or complex health needs this may include those with Autism only.

The post is multi role, therefore all aspects of duties will be carried out e.g., playing with children, driving minibus, domestic cleaning, laundry, cooking, shopping, etc

To support enhanced packages of care in a variety of settings to  prevent and avoid inappropriate hospital admissions

To be skilled in a wide range of specific clinical/behavioural Interventions, e.g., enteral feeding, Catheterisation, behaviour management and epilepsy management

Act as named Nurse in respite  for allocated CYP. Developing good relationships with the family and the wider MDT.

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing and clinical care plans in collaboration with CYP, family and the wider MDT

Awareness of National and local policy and the implications for service delivery and own actions.

To administer medication in line with CWPT policy. Understand the pharmacology of medicines, use of as required medicines. Transcribe medication onto administration sheets and assist in writing of specific health protocols for as required drugs.

Carry out all relevant aspects of care mostly without direct supervision adhering to CWPT policy/procedure and NMC guidelines. Respond quickly and appropriately to constantly changing situations amidst frequent interruptions and distractions.

To work in partnership with other agencies and organisations.

Ensure that dignity, choice, respect, independence, and the rights of the people that we support are maintained at all times.

Lead the team on duty, confident delegation to ensure that the service delivers high quality care.

  • To represent the service at internal and external meetings.
