We are seeking consultants with enthusiasm, commitment and drive to work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation and within the community to help lead the organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity within the Ophthalmology department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The Sub-Regional Eye Unit consists of outpatient facilities at three sites; Lister Treatment Centre (LTC), New QEII Hospital and Hertford County Hospital, as well as a theatre complex fully equipped with state of the art equipment for ophthalmic surgery and an Urgent Eye Clinic based at the LTC. The Eye Unit is extremely busy with 6,000 new patients and 21,000 follow-up visits per year. There are well-established specialist clinics in medical retina, paediatrics, glaucoma, oculoplastics and vitreo-retinal surgery as well as a thriving Diabetic Retinal Screening Programme.

  • Maintenance of high-quality patient centred care • Shared responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service and participation in strategic planning • Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service • Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity • Active participation in continuing medical education

  • Ophthalmological examination, investigations and treatment of patients referred from Accident service, General Medical Practitioners and other departments of the hospital. • Management of outpatient clinics • Laser clinic sessions • Intravitreal injection sessions • Writing letters and communicating with General Medical Practitioners and other medical, nursing and paramedical staff as required
