As part of our commitment to patients and delivery of a world class service for all we have created the UHCW Improvement (UHCWi) System in partnership with the Virginia Mason Institute in Seattle; this involves a structured approach to removing waste and putting the patient first using a lean management system and methodologies.  Our culture and ways of working reflect and embed the practices and methodologies of UHCWi. You are expected, where identified, to attend and complete relevant training and development opportunities to support this. This may include Lean for Leaders, Advanced Lean Training, and the Human Factors Programme, amongst others.  Full attendance and completion of identified courses is considered essential and a pre-requisite for this post.

Applications are open for a HPB Speciality Doctor who wishes to gain experience in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic surgery. The role would be suitable for a senior trainee or a post CCT fellow for a minimum of one year.

•       The Speciality Doctor will be expected to manage Pre and post op patients.

•       The Speciality Doctor will be encouraged to publish and present at local and international meetings in HPB.

•       Modular HPB cases hands on training (STU) for both benign and malignant conditions

•       Cross site case observations

In addition to HpB registrar work, the duties of the post include providing senior cover for HPB patients, attending theatre/outpatient sessions and care of admitted General Surgical patients. There is a commitment to the acute general surgical rota (commensurate with experience). The appointed candidate will be expected to carry out a degree of clinical work (clinics) independently

There is access to modern imaging (CT PET), Endoscopy (ERCP and EUS) and robotics on single site.

This post offers excellent exposure and experience in complex HPB surgery. The Speciality Doctor is expected to develop operative skills in HPB and judgement in the care of such patients through the full spectrum of the specialty.

The University Hospital is over a thousand bedded tertiary care, level III trauma unit. It is affiliated to Warwick Medical School (Warwick University) which is one of the foremost institutions in the Country.

On call and emergency care: Fellow will be part of 1:9 on call cover for emergency and trauma care. UHCW is a tertiary trauma centre and the specialty doctor will be exposed to acute and delayed management of emergency General and Upper GI surgery. Part of on-call will be covering hot surgical clinic and emergency general surgery on-call cover.
