An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 Vascular Specialist Nurse to join Tameside Hospitals Vascular Studies Unit. This would be for 30 hours.

Tameside Hospital is a smaller but personal hospital, set in the heart of the town of Ashton Under Lyne, close to the Lancashire countryside with all amenities close by and with excellent commuter links to Manchester and the surrounding areas.

The Vascular Studies Unit provides a predominantly outpatient service to the patients of the Tameside community helping with the diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis, peripheral arterial disease and other vascular conditions.

We are looking for an experienced band 5 / 6 nurse with knowledge  of care of the vascular patient,  to receive full training in all aspects of vascular duplex scanning and help in the day to day running of a small but busy department. The vascular nurse’s role consists of daily nurse led emergency clinics and vascular outpatient appointments providing duplex scanning for conditions such as deep vein thrombosis, carotid artery stenosis, abdominal aortic aneurysms and peripheral arterial disease.

The successful applicant will be working within a small team comprising of two vascular specialist nurses, an administrator and various vascular scientists.

Main duties of the job

The postholder is a designated deputy to the person who has continuing responsibility for the department and is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.

The postholder will undertake training in duplex scanning and will be expected to take responsibility for their own caseload. To provide cover when necessary.

  • 1.    The postholder will undertake vascular duplex scanning and once proficient will be able to work autonomously. 2.    The post holder will be responsible for actively participating as part of the multi-disciplinary team within the department, to provide a seamless service to patients -providing general/specific care and administrative duties. 3.    The postholder will provide specialist nursing services to vascular patients pre and post operatively. 4.    The postholder will hold nurse led specialists clinics. 5.    The role encompasses undertaking expanded practice, training and education. 6.    The post holder will always act in a manner consistent with and work within the parameters of the NMC code of professional standards of practice and behaviour for nurses, midwives & nursing associates in line with trust policies and procedures.
