Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Derbyshire's friendly, established inpatient mental health dietetics team. This post is open to all Dietitians (including band 5 with little to no experience in mental health). If you demonstrate a willingness to learn and are interested in specialising in mental health, we can support you to achieve this!

You will be responsible for a varied clinical caseload and for providing a specialist dietetics service to our mental health inpatient units alongside multi-disciplinary teams. You will gain experience working within inpatient settings across older peoples and working age adults. You will provide high quality, evidence-based dietetic assessment/care plans, deliver staff training, and take part in service development projects.

The post will be based at the Kingsway Hospital in Derby; however, ability to travel to locations across Derbyshire is required on a weekly basis. The service covers inpatient mental health wards in Chesterfield with travel time and mileage incorporated or the post could be part based in Chesterfield upon your request. There will be opportunity for some remote working as part of this role.

We are a placement provider for student dietitians (A, B, C) from the University of Nottingham and the post holder will be involved in student training.

Main duties of the job

As a Specialist Inpatient Mental Health Dietitian, you will contribute to the delivery of an effective, high quality, evidence based mental health nutrition and dietetic service across the Trust. You will work within the Specialist Care Services division providing patient-centred dietetic input primarily across four inpatient sites across Derbyshire (Derby and Chesterfield).

You will manage a caseload of referrals, including but not limited to nutrition support, weight management, diabetes, and eating disorders/disordered eating, with regular supervision and support from the Trust’s Inpatient Lead Dietitian. Additionally, liaising with other specialist dietetic services may be required for further support and guidance for the management of more complex, specialist nutritional issues.

You will also provide continuity of care across inpatient and community pathways, advise, and support other healthcare professionals in nutrition and hydration. You will be responsible for the delivery of nutritional training to healthcare professionals as required.
