Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to carry out a range of duties covering many aspects of Women’s Health. The post is a dual role between the Specialist Care Division (Women’s Services) and Private Patients. The post holder will provide expert ultrasound scanning services and support the clinical team in managing private elective caesarean sections within the theatre setting. The role involves performing high-quality obstetric ultrasound scans within the maternity assessment unit (MAS) or where required, assisting in clinical decision-making and providing direct support during elective caesarean sections, ensuring safe, patient-centred care.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Obstetric Ultrasound Scanning:
- Perform detailed obstetric ultrasound scans, including anomaly, growth, and wellbeing scans.
- Interpret and document ultrasound findings accurately, providing clear communication to the obstetric team and patients.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and clinical guidelines for fetal and maternal scanning.
- Provide a compassionate and supportive environment for expectant mothers during the scanning process.
Support for Elective Caesarean Sections:
- Assist with the private elective sections including the clinical management of patients undergoing elective caesarean sections, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care where required.
- Participate in pre-surgical assessments, providing obstetric scanning information to aid in surgical planning.
- Assist obstetricians in the operating theatre, ensuring safe practice and the delivery of high-quality care during caesarean procedures.
Collaboration and Multidisciplinary Teamwork:
- Work closely with obstetricians, anaesthetists, midwives, and the wider healthcare team to ensure seamless care for patients.
- Participate in case reviews, contributing to multidisciplinary discussions and decision-making processes.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families, ensuring clear understanding and addressing concerns.
Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement:
- Maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge and competency in obstetric scanning and caesarean section support.
- Participate in clinical audits and contribute to the development of protocols and guidelines to improve service delivery.
- Ensure compliance with local and national regulations and standards of care in obstetric practice.
