We are seeking an appropriately experienced Specialist Children`s Occupational Therapist to provide specialist Occupational Therapy input into the Multidisciplinary post NICU clinics and Therapy Follow up clinics for preterm babies. The successful post holder will have proven experience with this population of children and demonstrate an ability to use appropriate standardised tests to predict future abilities of the babies assessed in clinic. The post holder will have excellent communication, team working and organisational skills. They will work closely with an experienced, skilled Specialist Children`s Physiotherapist within a wider team of Children`s Therapists. The post will be based in the Children`s Centre at the Royal United Hospitals Bath.
Main duties of the job
- To organise the monthly 3 month corrected age Neonatal Developmental Multi-Disciplinary (MDT) clinic with a Band 7 Specialist Children`s Physiotherapist.
- To assess babies at the 3 month corrected age MDT clinic using standardised developmental assessment tools such as the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development to screen babies. To assess and evaluate the babies’ outcome and to arrange further therapy follow up if required.
- To organise and provide follow up assessments for babies identified as high risk from the 3 month MDT clinic, working with a Band 7 Specialist Children`s Physiotherapist. To use critical observational skills and appropriate standardised assessments to determine the risk of long term developmental problems through a short burst of therapy input.
- To carry out 2 year Bayley assessments and complete associated administrative tasks when required.
- To refer at risk babies on to local Community Therapy teams for ongoing follow up.
