The successful candidate will work predominantly with adults who have acquired and progressive neurological conditions. The role will involve providing specialist assessment and therapy to adult patients who have been referred to the Doncaster Community Stroke Rehabilitation Team, the Neurological Rehabilitation Outreach Team and general community caseloads (including care homes). We also receive referrals from the physical and mental health inpatient wards.

The successful candidate will be able to work both independently and as part of a wider team. The post will involve working in a variety of settings including patients own homes, care homes, inpatient wards and outpatient clinic. The successful candidates must be competent in the assessment and management of dysphagia or working towards completion of a recognised post graduate qualification/competencies.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide specialist support to adult patients/service users including support with alternative and augmentative communication aids. .
  • To ensure well co-ordinated, integrated care plan for individual patients/service users.
  • To participate fully in the multidisciplinary teams drawing on specialist knowledge/experience.
  • To contribute to service and policy development.
  • To advise line manager on service delivery, pressures and developments with regard to future needs and anticipated developments.
  • To supervise and delegate work and provide clinical support to a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, Junior Speech and Language therapists and generic Rehabilitation Assistants.
  • To represent speech and language therapy at relevant meetings as and when required.
  • To attend and contribute to departmental team meetings and AHP network meetings.
  • Knowledge of AAC systems would be beneficial.
