You will advise and support the Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Operating Officer on the delivery of key operational targets, capacity-related operational and strategic projects as they arise.
The Operations Directorate at CUH is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Trust and for delivering programmes of work which support emergency care, planned care, and patient flow.
The Central Operations directorate is responsible for delivering the daily business as usual processes that support delivery of key operational targets and capacity / flow related projects for which the role-holder will have direct accountability for.
The role takes on the main responsibility for internally-developed projects as well as those which the Trust has been mandated to deliver by its regulators and commissioners. Most projects involve significant interaction with other local system providers and commissioners, up to the level of Chief Executive. The Senior Operations Advisor will develop a strong working relationship with external partners up to CEO level, and may be asked to represent the COO’s office in external meetings, high level escalation meetings and with the Trust’s regulators.
There is currently no dedicated resource to support the COO in the management of these projects. The Senior Operations Advisor will therefore need to quickly develop an understanding of project requirements and work independently to identify any additional resource needed for successful delivery. This could include further team members for whom the Senior Operations Advisor would act as line manager.
All projects will involve a multitude of stakeholders both within the hospital and across the local system, as well as reporting to the Trust’s regulators. The Senior Operations Advisor must therefore be an excellent communicator both in person and through presentations and reports and have the ability to represent complex, sensitive or contentious information clearly to different audiences. They must also be prepared to negotiate and use diplomacy to impart difficult messages and expedite projects.
