Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, well-motivated Senior Medical Secretary to join the Orthopaedic Surgery Service.

The post is primarily based in the Orthopaedic Surgery Service at Bradford Royal Infirmary but the postholder may at times be asked to cover our St Luke’s hospital site.

You will work within a multi-disciplinary team, and be responsible for a range of duties including; diary management, audio transcription and word processing of clinical letters, production of reports and other correspondence as required by the Medical Team as well as theatre scheduling.

You should be literate and numerate, with excellent organisational, time management and IT skills and an ability to work without supervision and to tight deadlines and under pressure.

Medical secretarial experience is desirable but not essential but you should have a secretarial & administrative background including dealing with the general public on a face to face basis and by telephone often around sensitive issues.

A high standard of communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with staff at all levels is essential to this post along with a strong team ethic; you must have enthusiasm, motivation and demonstrate pride in your work. A good knowledge of the NHS would be also be advantageous.

Main duties of the job

For the role of the Senior Medical Secretary you will work within a multi-disciplinary team, and be responsible for a range of duties related to patient pathway management, including, but not limited to; managing an outpatient and inpatient waiting for a specific Consultant, arranging elective admissions, diary management, audio transcription and word processing of clinical letters, production of reports and other correspondence as required. You will also have involvement with our Multi Disciplinary Cancer teams.

You should be literate and numerate, with excellent organisational, time management and IT skills and an ability to work without supervision.

RSA III typing/ word processing is highly desirable although a typing test will be required at interview. Medical secretarial and typing experience is essential.
