We have a vacancy for a part time Band 4 Senior Medical Secretary to join our Trauma & Orthopaedic Department. This would be an exciting opportunity for anybody who wishes to progress their secretarial career or somebody who is looking to build on their current Medical Secretary experience.

RSA III typing/ word processing (or equivalent experience) is highly desirable although a typing test will be required at interview. Medical secretarial and typing experience is essential.

This role is primarily based at Bradford Royal Infirmary, however there may occasionally be a requirement to work across sites to provide cover as the service spans both Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke's Hospital.

Main duties of the job

For the role of Senior Medical Secretary you will work within a multi-disciplinary team, and be responsible for a range of duties related to patient pathway management, including, but not limited to; managing an outpatient and inpatient waiting list for specific Consultants, arranging elective admissions, diary management, audio transcription and word processing of clinical letters, production of reports and other correspondence as required.  You will also have  involvement with our Multi Disciplinary Cancer teams.

You should have a very methodical approach to your work, as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills, to deal with patients and their relatives and/or carers; as well as a wide variety of medical staff. Teamworking skills, a good telephone manner, and a polite, tactful, reassuring, and a helpful approach are a key requirement for this role. You should be literate and numerate, with excellent organisational, time management and IT skills and an ability to work without supervision.

We are looking for someone who has the ability to work with staff at all levels. You will have enthusiasm, motivation and demonstrate pride in your work. The ideal candidate would bring with them strong leadership skills, and a proven ability to supervise and mentor more junior members of the team.
