In particular, specialist expertise has been developed in the management of severe acute pancreatitis, hepatic failure and perforated oesophagus. The Unit is covered 24/7 by three tiers, each with eight junior doctors, with full intensive care specialist consultant support. It is recognised by the IBTICM for training in intensive care to advanced level. A full weekly educational program is provided to the trainee doctors.
