An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Clinical Coder to join our team at Salford Royal Hospital which is part of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking for candidates with clinical coding experience across specialties in an acute setting and ideally already hold the National Clinical Coding Qualification (ACC) or be working towards.
We would also consider applicants in a developmental role, with a minimum requirement of having already completed the Clinical Coding Standards Course.
The post holder requires excellent communication, organisation skills and to be able to work as part of a team to deliver timely and accurate coded data to meet the Trust's deadlines.
We have the ability to offer a fully remote or hybrid working with the use of a fully electronic patient record and offer full flexible working in regards to start and finish time, working patterns, condensed hours etc.
For development in the role, the banding gateways will be reached through the following: -
Trainee Clinical Coders, via input and documentation from their Clinical Coding Liaison Specialists and in conjunction with the Trainee Clinical Coder Programme Outline Document, will be able to demonstrate sufficient experience and skills to prompt a development assessment & audit.
The Clinical Coding assessment will be conducted first and comprises of a mixture of ICD 10 and OPCS-4 quickfire questions, and case studies. The set pass mark for the paper is ≥ 90%, and upon successfully obtaining the pass percentage, it will prompt a Clinical Coding Milestone audit on the Trainee Coder.
The Clinical Coding audit will be conducted within 3 months from a successful assessment, following the current version of NHSE Clinical Coding audit methodology. It should comprise of a minimum of 50 episodes, and the pass percentage is set to DSPT level of attainment for Standards Met as a minimum.
Upon successfully passing the audit the Trainee Clinical Coder Band 3, will be awarded Clinical Coder Band 4.
For the Clinical Coder, Band 4 development Milestone to Senior Clinical Coder Band 5, the Key Development Milestone is met upon successfully passing the National Clinical Coding Qualification and the Clinical Coder obtaining their Accredit Clinical Coding status. The banding change is from Clinical Coder Band 4 to the Senior Clinical Coder Band 5, with the banding change effective from the date of exam.
The Coding Team is a skilled team with an excellent reputation that ensures complete and accurate coding of Trust activity. We have a wealth of experienced within the team as well as in-house Audit and Coded Data & Standards Assurance Team to support you and help you advance through specialties.
