Radiology is a busy patient centred department and this post is part of a pool of receptionists and wider administration and clerical team.  There is good peer group support and appropriate training provided.

Our receptionists are the first point of contact for those attending the department, they are vital to ensure that patients’ and visitors' are greeted with a professional and empathetic service.

We expect candidates to be motivated, hardworking and compassionate with a positive and professional approach to providing excellent customer service.

Essential qualities required are a team player, flexible and the ability to work proactively - at times using one’s own initiative.  The candidate will require excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with customer care experience.

Main duties of the job

Radiology receptionists ensure patient information is up to date and accurate on both Radiology and Trust wide information systems.  They are a further pause in the process for positive patient identification and help to highlight patient ID queries which supports IRMER compliance.

The receptionist role is essential to ensure the efficient flow of patients through the  department.  Without sufficient reception staff we are unable to support 7 day working that is essential to achieve waiting time KPI's.

The receptionists also cover courtesy calling and admin tasks relevant to the post.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The reception post is the first point of contact for patients, clinicians, and visitors to the department.  The Radiology service requires a professional, polite, and confident individual who can demonstrate confidentiality at all times.

Responsibilities include liaising with clinical staff regarding patient arrival times and safety information, and receiving enquiries by various methods of media, including telephone, email and an internal intercom system.

The candidate will ensure all reception tasks are completed accurately using the electronic computer systems CRIS and EPR.  Attending patients in real time for their appointments, and record and escalate queries comprehensively to the administration and clinical staff.

In addition, they are responsible for various administration tasks to include follow up communication with patients that have failed to attend appointments, courtesy calls and monitoring the waiting room to ensure patients are accommodated in a timely manner.
