Job overview

This is an excellent opportunity for a mental health practitioner, who is already qualified and registered as a psychodynamic/psychoanalytic psychotherapist or currently in a formal psychodynamic/psychoanalytic psychotherapy training recognised by the UKCP or BPC or equivalent, to join an experienced team of Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Psychotherapists.

Interested candidates are strongly encouraged to contact Dr Thea Vasayianni, Consultant Psychologist and Co-Lead for PPS, to find out more about the role or to arrange an informal visit.

Main duties of the job

We are offering a range of individual psychoanalytic, psychodynamic and group analytic psychotherapies, supervision, training, teaching and consultancy across the Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust. The team supports the development of psychoanalytic/psychodynamic psychotherapeutic skills, research, and practice as a part of the overall provision of psychological therapies within the Trust. The Service is professionally managed and supported within the Specialist Services of the Adult Mental Health Directorate.

The Trust is committed to providing support and supervision for continuing professional development and we have an excellent track record for developing our psychology workforce. There are strong links to the local D. Clin. Psy. Programmes as we are key providers of academic and clinical experience components both in terms of teaching and supervision.

Due to the nature of the role, it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Please refer to the attached job description and person specification for further detailed information to ensure that you meet the role requirements before applying.

The post holder will be responsible in delivering psychoanalytic/psychodynamic assessment and psychotherapy to service users with highly complex conditions. In addition to direct clinical work, the provision of clinical supervision and training to less experienced colleagues as well as the consultation to other members of the community mental health teams are important elements of the role.

Psychologist and Adult Psychotherapists provide key leadership roles within the Trust. To support this we have developed leadership profiles for each psychology band.  You are encouraged to find more information about these and the NHS Leadership Academy’s Healthcare Leadership Model and the profiles at the NHS Leadership Academy website.
