Job overview

As part of the expansion of Immunology services a fantastic opportunity has  become available to lead the pharmacy service provided to Immunology.

This is a new role and involves leading and developing the clinical pharmacy service to Immunology, with oversight and managerial responsibilities for Rheumatology and Dermatology as well.  As medicines become more complex, you will play a pivotal role in the safe introduction and management of medicines including immunoglobulins, immunotherapy, monoclonal antibodies and gene therapy.

You will be an individual with proven experience in a hospital pharmacy setting with extensive experience working in a clinical role.  Some  experience of Immunology, Dermatology or Rheumatology patients would be desirable.  Due to the large cohort of Immunology patients undergoing bone marrow transplants, BOPA SACT competency accredited would be an advantage. You will also have excellent communication skills, a commitment to patient care and experience of directorate working including managing high cost drugs and contributing to clinical guidelines and protocols.    To act as the Lead Specialist Pharmacist for Immunology. To oversee the clinical pharmacy services to Dermatology and Rheumatology

  • To develop expert clinical pharmacy practice and expertise within the specialty of Immunology. To have input into the pharmaceutical care of Immunology BMT patients in collaboration with the BMT pharmacist

Main duties of the job

  • To drive and develop the clinical pharmacy service to Immunology and oversee the safe and effective use of Immunotherapies, Immunoglobulins, Biologics, Advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) and Gene Therapies within the specialist area
  • To be the Lead Specialist Pharmacist for Immunology and Immunotherapies
  • To oversee the clinical pharmacy services to Dermatology and Rheumatology
  • To develop expert clinical pharmacy practice and expertise within the specialty of Immunology and in the use of Immunotherapies and other advanced therapies.
  • To oversee the pharmaceutical care of Immunology BMT patients with the BMT pharmacist
  • To work with senior managers and clinicians, supporting strategic development of the immunology service
  • To manage, appraise and develop pharmacy staff within the team including the setting of objectives, ensuring adequate training and overseeing performance
  • To promote the safe, rational and cost-effective use of medicines working closely with nursing, medical staff and healthcare managers
  • To lead on the immunology pharmacy aspects of any national or international accreditation within the specialities e.g The Joint Accreditation Committee ISCT-Europe & EBMT (JACIE)
  • To develop clinical guidelines and policies to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines and advanced therapies · · · · · ·
