Are you looking for something a bit different? Are you keen to make in important contribution to developing psychological services? Are you keen to advance your career in Psychology?
We are looking forward to working with somebody who can help us develop the psychology service for adults living in the Western Isles. This is an exciting job, and will be hard work, but really stimulating, especially as it will involve all aspects of delivering a psychology service. You will be delivering assessments to a range of patients (across different mental health and learning disabilities specialties) as well as delivering training to multi-disciplinary team colleagues, advising colleagues on clinical governance issues and working closely with NHS Education for Scotland. We are looking for someone who will work well in a multi-disciplinary team context, liaising with members of other disciplines, especially GPs and colleagues in primary care and the voluntary sector. The post requires a broad range of clinical skills, because when working in a remote and rural area, one has fewer options for onward referrals, so it is important to find someone who will strive to find the balance between generalist and specialist roles and will aim to utilise support from mainland colleagues. We are happy to offer candidates flexibility to develop specialisms based on their interests and development needs. Can you see yourself in this role? Please get in touch.
We are hoping to recruit a suitable candidate who is keen to live in Western Isles and enjoy the unique experience that island life has to offer. However, we appreciate that for some staff living in Western Isles permanently may not be an option. We are able to offer flexibility, with remote working options, which makes NHS Western Isles an attractive employer. Interested? You will be expected to travel to the western isles on a quarterly basis and meet the cost of travel and accommodation. Why not get in touch?
The Western Isles lie 40 nautical miles off the north-west coast of Scotland and consist of an archipelago of islands, eleven of which are uninhabited. The island group stretch approximately 140 miles from the Butt of Lewis in the north to Barra in the south. They are linked together by a series of causeways, two ferries and an air service. The main hospital, Western Isles Hospital is a modern 116-bedded general hospital equipped with modern facilities. There is a four-bedded adult Acute Psychiatric Unit. The community hospital in Benbecula caters for the people of the Uists and Barra. You will be an integral member of our community mental health services and you will provide clinical leadership in the delivery of psychological therapies.
The main working base is Western Isles Hospital in the town of Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, though in order to meet the needs of a wide rural community, psychological therapies and services are routinely delivered remotely.
