An exciting opportunity awaits a suitably qualified and experienced cardiac physiologist to lead the Department of Cardiac Physiology at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUHFT).

The Cardiology department covers the major cardiological disciplines including imaging, PCI, PPCI, Standard and Complex Pacing, Transthoracic & Stress echocardiography and TOE, Standard & Complex ablation, Ambulatory Monitoring, level 2 Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Pulmonary Hypertension and Inherited Cardiac Conditions. Physiology provides services to the Trust, the community and a large GP open access echocardiography service.

  • We have a very active research programme in combination with the University of East Anglia

Main duties of the job

The candidate must demonstrate significant experience working as a senior advanced healthcare scientist at manager level including skill at managing complex clinical and managerial issues. The applicant will provide expertise and leadership and will form part of the leadership team, working with the Service Director, Matron and Operational Manager. They will enable the department to provide excellent patient care through exceptional clinical standards whilst developing the learning experience of cardiac physiologists and scientists. Through National and International Guidelines they will enable the department to deliver very high standards of safety, competency and patient safety. The successful applicant must demonstrate strong strategic leadership and financial understanding and have the highest skills of written and verbal communication.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Promote effective governance and ensuring that the highest standard of clinical care is delivered.
  • Ensure all clinical and non-clinical performance indicators, targets and objectives are met in line with national and local standards.
  • Ensure the department and staff work within the patient first framework.
  • Manage and lead the Technical Cardiology Department on a day-to-day basis ensuring the delivery of a high quality and safe Physiologist service, supporting clinical and support staff.
  • Develop and implement action plans to address areas of non-compliance, where necessary with the Speciality Leads within Technical Cardiology.
  • Ensure staff work within standard operating processes and that these are embedded within the team to enable maximum efficiency of resource and capacity.
