We are a Monday to Friday service, however flexibility is essential as Weekend clinics can be offered to patients at short notice. To work as a member of the Orthopaedic team demonstrating an expertise in plaster and casting techniques. To provide technical and professional to other clinical areas within the trust. The post holder will be for the provision of a high standard of care including undertaking specialist casting and splinting procedures. The post holder will work unsupervised using their own initiative and make appropriate clinical decisions.
You must be a Certified Orthopaedic Technician holding a British Orthopaedic Association certificate or British casting certificate
To assist in providing and developing good practice with patients in an Outpatients setting, be the Patients advocate when required ensure patients and the families are and feel included in their care ensuring that said practices are in accordance with department and hospital policy.
To assist in the establishment, monitoring and evaluation of agreed standards of patient care and quality service.
To establish an effective communication system with patients, their careers, and all staff working in the multidisciplinary team.
To assist with the clinical and housekeeping practice and compliance with policy and procedures to prevent hospital acquired infection.
To Provide advice on application of cast for specialist conditions I.E Total contact casting and it’s wound care for diabetic patients.
A Plaster practitioner will work closely with all nursing staff and the wider team, which includes administration staff, surgeons, anaesthetists, theatre staff and colleagues from other departments such as Pharmacy, Radiology and Pathology. This list is not exhaustive and it is expected that there will be other key relationships which will develop within this role
