Due to a promotion internally of a post holder we have the following vacancy available in theatres -

Band 7 perioperative practice educator theatres

Main duties of the job

  • To identify and promote evidence based clinical practice within the Operating TheatreDepartments, through the implementation and facilitation of clinically based teaching / education,to ensure that staff are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their rolescompetently.
  • Implement the Theatre induction and competency programme; development a programme forstaff new to the Theatre environment. This will incorporate theoretical teaching, clinical; skillsassessment and formulation of personal development plans for anaesthetics, scrub roles andrecovery areas.
  • The post holder will work closely with the Universities to develop formal education strategies forstudents in theatre and qualified staff development, so ensuring links between theory and practiceare securely comprehended and implemented.
  • The post holder will undertake audit and assist in the development of professional educationalpolicies, standards and best practice guidelines. The role also involves representing the Trust atlocal and regional levels.
  • Hold and P G cert qualification or already participate on the P G cert

Main duties of the job

  • Develop and implement education strategies across all the operating theatre departments in order that staff are equipped with the right skills.2. Alongside the  Theatre Services, Matron and theatre coordinators, assist in the identification and coordination of education and professional development requirements of new staff and existing staff both Nurses and Operating Department Practitioners3. Be the Trust representative for the University on the peri-operative course working group, contributing to curriculum development.4. Develop preceptorship programmes for all new peri-operative practitioners. 5. Participate in an annual performance review with line manager and maintain a personalpractice is based on best practice and up to date6. Promote an effective learning environment7. Provide feedback and educational counselling to Nursing, ODP and Assistant Practitioners inrelation to their professional and personal development.8. Provide information, advice and guidance on availability of specialist peri-operative care trainingand education programmes to all staff where appropriate.9. Provide formal/informal teaching sessions for colleagues, explaining and demonstrating perioperative10. Act as lead for mentorship taking responsibility for the allocation of mentors to students and ensure there are adequate numbers of mentors to teach and support students.Please see attached Job Description for full details

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Manage the Theatre Department and provide line management for the team. Comply with policy and procedure in data collection and reporting.

Responsible for ensuring the team address on-going health care needs and where appropriate, undertake effective discharge planning.

Maximise best use of clinical resources, monitor and evaluate patient flow, admission and discharge arrangements, take responsibility for initiating improvements.

Manage Staffing levels and staff rosters including organising agency cover/overtime to cover service delivery.

Develop the services within the Theatre Department and implement service improvements. Lead recruitment and retention within the Theatre Department.
