The Wirral University Teaching Hospital requires volunteers to support a specific set of roles within the Patient Safety Partner Team. These roles will seek to wrap around and support the existing processes to learn and understand patient safety events to bring about effective quality improvement.
Roles can involve a time commitment from a couple of sessions a month up to multiple sessions per week depending on your capacity. The key to the role is utilising experiences of our local population, whether as a patient / family member or safety experience from other sectors to help review, challenge and support implementation of sustainable quality improvements.
Whilst experience of working in safety critical industries would be a great benefit in this role, all training will be provided through the national Patient Safety Syllabus programme.
The Patient Safety Partner role covers three key areas:
Proportionate responses to patient safety events (joining an decision making panel).
Supporting investigation teams following patient safety events.
Supporting quality improvement steering groups.
The PSPs will attend meetings, review and critique reports, interview staff and those effected by patient safety events, support proposal of recommendations and challenge where change is not evident.
The specific roles of a Patient Safety Partner will develop over time, the initial 3 roles described above have been co-produced with professional and patient representatives and focuses on setting responses, supporting investigations and supporting quality improvement. A Patient Safety Partner can express a preference for any of the areas of working and will be aligned to the current work required.
The roles will mainly be completed at the Arrowe Park Hospital site but there are opportunities for more remote / hybrid working.
