BSPS is an NHSI approved established pathology network and is the fifth largest network in the UK.

BSPS provides pathology services to five NHS Trusts through a Managed Network; Ashford and St Peter’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts, Frimley Health Foundation Trust, Royal Surrey Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust and Surrey and Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a quality focused, dynamic and forward-thinking individual to join our team in taking forward and developing the Governance and Quality Management Systems within BSPS. The role extends throughout Pathology across all sites.

Applications are invited from individuals with experience of governance, Quality Management Systems and / or Service Improvement and who can demonstrate their delivery of quality and continual improvement in services of the same or similar type.

Being flexible, self-motivated and innovative will be fundamental to your role. The ability to communicate well with senior staff and laboratory teams is essential.

You will work as part of the BSPS quality team and will ensure the provision of a high-quality professional service and compliance to accreditation standards at all times. The departments are fully accredited with UKAS and comply with relevant ISO standards.

Main duties of the job

A key duty is to facilitate and co-ordinate the Quality Management System in liaison with the Quality Officers and the Lead Quality Manager.  This is for the benefit of the users of the service and its staff.  This will enable BSPS to become more effective in the delivery of high quality services whilst meeting both regulatory and accreditation requirements.

The Quality Support Officer will have key skills and abilities to promote and oversee quality and quality improvement within pathology by keeping abreast and up to date with quality management issues and software systems that will enable continuous improvement.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Ensuring processes needed for the Quality Management System are established, implemented and maintained.
  • Collating and analysing data relating to the performance of the Quality Management System.
  • Analysing non conformities within departments and dealing with corrective, preventative and root cause analysis where appropriate.
  • Reporting to the Quality Managers and Lead Quality Manager on the performance of the Quality Management System and any need for improvement.
  • Ensuring the promotion of awareness of user requirements throughout BSPS.
  • Contribute to the audit schedules within BSPS and make relevant changes on policies where appropriate.
  • Ensure that the Health & Safety requirements as part of any relevant accreditation or regulatory standards for BSPS, including current legislation on COSHH, Manual Handling, are adhered to.
  • To be responsible for updating policies and procedures as appropriate and to monitor and audit these to ensure that they are carried out at all times.
  • To investigate and report any complaints, accidents / incidents and provide written reports as and when required as requested by the Lead Quality Manager.
  • To ensure that quality procedures are carried out and their effectiveness monitored. Ensure adequate checks and quality assurance of all specimens processed through the departments of BSPS.
