Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, caring, highly motivated Registered Nursing Associate to join the expanding Alcohol Care Team for 22.5 hours a week.

The post offers a unique opportunity to be an integral part of the Alcohol Care Team and will assist in the comprehensive assessment and treatment of patients with alcohol related conditions, provide appropriate disease related advice and promote health education in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.

They will be expected to refer patients appropriately and in a timely manner to other service providers and clinical pathways – support is available from a Nurse Specialist as required. They will accept referrals from other Health Care Professionals and work unsupervised, with regular monitoring/clinical supervision from senior staff. As such, whilst the post is based at NSECH for most of the working week, there is an expectation that the post holder has access to a vehicle to travel to NTGH, WGH and on occasion HGH.

Main duties of the job

To comprehensively assess patients, gaining information about their physical health, mental health, social issues as well as their alcohol history to format a plan of care based on the patients’ individual needs.

Collaborate and communicate effectively with a range of other health care professionals, patients and carers.

To advise and support emergency department staff on the admission criteria for patients with alcohol misuse issues attending the department.

To liaise with other professionals both within the hospital and external agencies to meet the needs of the patient, including raising safeguarding concerns and referrals to local recovery services.

Work within NHCFT policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure high clinical standards.

To contribute to all nursing care, providing care for people including those with complex needs.

Working as a member of the nursing team under the direction of the Registered Nurse to provide and monitor care.

This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.

Essential criteria

Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register.

Nursing Associate Foundation Degree qualification

Travel across all Trust Sites – Car Driver and access to vehicle for work purposes
