FIEXED TERM CONSULTANT NEPHROLOGIST

Applications are invited for a one year, Fixed Term Consultant post in Nephrology, based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Aberdeen Royal Infirmary is the major teaching hospital for the North East of Scotland. The Renal Unit provides tertiary services for the NHS Grampian region and the Shetland and Orkney Islands. Peritoneal and Haemodialysis are provided across the region through a network of satellite units all managed from the main unit in Aberdeen. In-patient care is provided in the state of the art Emergency Care Centre. Acute Renal replacement is provided within the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for patients from across the region. Multisystem Vasculitis is a particular interest of the unit and is managed in a collaborative manner with specialists from other departments. Renal Transplantation is carried out in the Edinburgh Transplant Unit with patients returning for ongoing follow up in Aberdeen around 1 week after operation. The unit has an active research programme working jointly with the University of Aberdeen. Key interests range from the basic biology of Renal Inflammatory disease to the epidemiology of Chronic Kidney Disease and associated health servicing planning. There are excellent post graduate educational facilities at the Suttie Centre for Medical Education on the same campus as the hospital.

Aberdeen is well known for offering superb quality of life and enjoys first class amenities, housing and schools. There are excellent connections with other British cities and the continent, flying time to London is approximately one hour with regular daily flights - and road and rail links to all points north and south are easily accessible. Aberdeenshire includes some of the most spectacular countryside in Europe with Royal Deeside and the Cairngorm Mountain National Park and a wide range of outdoor pursuits within easy reach or commute of the city.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.

Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).
