An opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist to join the Southeast Mobility and Rehabilitation Technology Services (SMART) as a Team Lead for the Assessment Services. The SMART Services (www.smart.scot.nhs.uk) provide highly specialised clinical rehabilitation technology services across the southeast of Scotland and are based in a purpose-build centre at Astley Ainslie Hospital in Edinburgh.

The post holder will be clinical, professional and managerial responsibility for their area of responsibility including clinical and staff governance issues, and staff training and development for three therapy teams (Blue badge independent mobility assessment service, Disabled Living Centre and Scottish Driving Assessment Service). They will be responsible for maximising service provision, including the delivery of safe and effective clinical practice, ensuring that all local and national guidelines and targets are adhered to and met.

The post holder will have a clinical caseload in one or two of the three services that will occupy the majority of their time. They will act independently to provide a full comprehensive specialist service of assessment, diagnosis, treatment/appropriate management, onward referral and discharge to a complex range of patients referred to the service(s) and offer expert clinical advice and support to other clinicians.

The post is a job share and between 0.5 and 0.7 WTE.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Recruiting Board.
