Applications are invited for a new substantive consultant neonatal post at Birmingham Women’s & Children’s NHS Foundation Trust to work both in Neonatal Transport (KIDSNTS) at Birmingham Children’s Hospital (7PAs) & Neonatal Intensive Care at Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals (RWT)(3PAs). This is a new post developed to support both services.
KIDSNTS undertakes approximately 1200 neonatal transfers/year, moving neonates between the 4 NICUs, 5 LNUs, 2 SCUs & 2 regional specialist hospitals (Birmingham Children’s & AlderHey). The post holder will work with the other 5 WTE consultants to provide consultant cover and develop the service which sits alongside the Paediatric Retrieval service (KIDS).
RWT is one of the 5 NICUs in the West Midlands and provides all levels of neonatal intensive care. The RWT NICU has 26 cots: 7 intensive care(IC), 7 high dependency(HD), 12 special & 8 transitional care. The service supports a Neonatal Community Outreach Team(NCOT). 3 PAs will be delivered at RWT to support the current consultant group. The applicant will provide cover for the neonatal intensive care and special care areas on a 1:9 Pro Rata basis.
The Successful applicant should have CCT in Paediatrics (Neonatal) or CCT in Paediatrics with equivalent Neonatal experience. Those who are within 6 months of obtaining their CCT on the date of the AAC are eligible to apply but must provide evidence of their expected CCT date.
KIDSNTS
The appointee will join the dedicated NTS team to provide high quality service delivery, maintain standards and protocols, to provide teaching and perform audit.
When on clinical service, the NTS consultant will be based on site during the day and on call from home at night/weekend. The NTS consultant is expected to attend at the bedside when patient acuity, middle grade training and service provision demands.
The job plan will contain an appropriate number of nights, weekends and bank holidays and will be complement the NIC consultant rota.
Coordination of the transport service and decision support for referrals is provided by the NTS consultants using modern conference call facilities.
RWT NICU
The appointee will join the 9-person Consultant Neonatologist team in a predominant clinical role with some leadership roles. Neonatology sits within the Perinatal services directorate.
