This is a full-time permanent post working in an innovative and forward thinking ‘Think Family’ Safeguarding Service at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking a highly knowledgeable proficient Professional with advanced skills in protecting adults from neglect and abuse. You must have a genuine commitment to safeguarding under a whole family strategy. The Named Professional Safeguarding Adults will provide expert advice, safeguarding supervision, intervention, and direction regarding adults at risk in line with the Trust safeguarding responsibilities under the Care Act (2014), The Mental Capacity Act 2005, and the Trust Think Family Safeguarding Policy.

Main duties of the job

You must have strong professional leadership, governance, assurance, and workforce skills and will be required to oversee the delivery of care and safeguarding interventions in line with our Trust values. Experience of working within or closely with NHS services is essential alongside being able to demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding adults at risk. The Named Professional Safeguarding Adults will also be managerially responsible for the Safeguarding Adults Practitioners within wider Think Family Safeguarding Service. Candidates are required to show evidence of their original certificates for qualifications to the interview panel. The role will require you to work across all areas in the Trust which includes those that are designated as positive and asymptomatic and negative COVID wards.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder is identified as the clinical specialist for “Safeguarding adults” across the Trust providing operational leadership, advanced knowledge, and skills alongside provision of safeguarding advice, support, and expertise.

The post holder will work closely with the Named Nurse Safeguarding Children, Named Midwife Safeguarding, Named Nurse for Children in Care and the Associate Chief Nurse of Safeguarding and in partnership with other Named and Designated Professionals, to ensure a consistent and coordinated approach to practice when supporting adults in need of safeguarding intervention across the trust within a “Think Family” framework.

The post holder will support all activities necessary to ensure that the organisation meets its responsibilities to safeguard/protect adults as set out in national guidance.

The post holder will also manage the Safeguarding Adult element of the Think Family Safeguarding Service.

The post holder will deputise for the Associate Chief Nurse of Safeguarding.

The post holder will maintain oversight of safeguarding adult cases via review and management of internal notification and referral process, including quality assurance and support with Section 42 processes.

The post holder will provide advice, support, and guidance to colleagues in relation to the MCA and DoLS/LPS.

The post holder will take a strategic lead on service developments relating to safeguarding to support improvements in the quality of adult care and their experience.
