We are seeking an Senior Engineer at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust to work within the local hospital desktop support team but will act as a senior member alongside the Principal Desktop engineer reporting into the Desktop Team Manager.
You will assess, implement and support complex desktop and networking requests and incidents end to end delivering request and end user needs.
You will inspire technical excellence, leading and driving service standards while supporting all internal and external users and a number external third party suppliers.
The position is a blend of technical desktop support and basic network communications support. Having the skillset and experience to liaise, triage and fulfil requests, which require this skillset. The Trust is responding to a significantly high volume of service transitions and equipment moves to new non-Trust geographic sites, which need to be received, understood, and have technical expertise for a recommendation as an output. The request will then need implementing alongside the project support coordinating the programme of service relocations.
Key relationships with Digital Service staff for asset management, network support team, stock control, good receiving and other reasonable responsibilities.
Main duties of the job
- Assess technical requirements for enabling IT Services on remote sites whilst appreciating the complex multiple domain and physical network environment across hospital and private sites.
- Responsible for ensuring that all Incidents and Requests are dealt with by the support team in a timely manner and within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLA).
- Engineers in the team will be expected to load balance working on local site requests and requests that can be resolved remotely from other sites when required to do so. The principal engineer alongside the Desktop Support Manager will monitor and organise this within the team.
- To organise and participate in the maintenance for all hardware and software under the guidance of the Desktop support Manager and or Head of Digital Operations.
- To manage and participate in the provision of a 24 hour a day, 365 day a year support function to the Trust for which an on-call allowance is paid.
- The individual must be prepared to travel, possibly with equipment, to various locations at short notice and should, therefore, have a Full UK Driving Licence.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation and guides.

- Develop and maintain technical documentation including network diagrams
- Capacity planning, managing network utilisation
- Performance, diagnostic monitoring and trend analysis of bandwidth
