We are looking to recruit friendly, professional and motivated individuals with the ability to work as part of a team and who are willing to play a key role in our maternity workforce providing high quality care. The Duchess of Kent Maternity Unit for Women & Newborn babies is situated in Northwest London and is part of the Hillingdon Hospital. We are a busy unit with currently around 4200 births each year, with plans to expand our maternity services and we would like to offer the right individuals the opportunity to join our team. Our Maternity Support Workers are expected to undertake those duties for which Midwifery/Nurse training and registration are not required, under the direction of a Registered Midwife or Nurse. Successful candidates for the Maternity positions will be expected to work a combination of day and night duties and will rotate throughout all clinical areas in the unit in order to broaden their experience. We offer a strong commitment for development. Our Practice Development team provides staff with a comprehensive package of training & clinical support and all our staff are released from clinical work to attend an annual mandatory training programme. Main duties of the job

Job Summary

1. The Maternity Support Worker is a key member of our multidisciplinary team. With her/his specialist knowledge she/he will support midwives in providing an insightful woman centred service based on current evidence and research.

2. The post holder will provide teaching of parenting skills using current knowledge gained from training, and will ensure that women their babies, and families are cared for in a safe environment and that privacy and dignity is maintained at all times.

3. The post holder will provide direct care and provide verbal and written   reports.

4. To actively seek the views of women and their families on the understanding of their care needs and develop a relationship to ensure the woman’s experience is positive.

5. This is a rotational post and the post holder will be expected to rotate into all areas of the maternity department.
