Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust has an vacancy for a LOCUM SPECIALTY DOCTOR IN ORTHODONTICS. This is a Fixed Term post for 6 months Maternity Leave Cover completing 6PAs per week.

Contract to start :  June 2025

Applications are invited from specialist qualified candidates for this part-time locum post based at Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust. The applicants should hold  a CCST in orthodontics  and be on the Specialist Register for orthodontics.

The successful candidate will be joining a vibrant team of 4 Orthodontic consultants, 2 trainees in orthodontics 1 specialist orthodontist and 1 orthodontic therapist. The department also hosts 5 OMFS consultants, 2 associate specialists, 3 Speciality Doctors oral surgery, 1 trainee in Oral surgery and a consultant in restorative dentistry.

The successful applicant will join a busy unit in providing a wide range of specialist treatments for patients, predominantly with a MDT focus. ALL Applicants MUST hold a GDC Registration with a Licence to Practice in the UK The Department is well equipped and has an on-site laboratory which is fully digital, digital Radiography including CBCT, and medical photography, as well as day case facilities and IV sedation. The Departments at Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust specialise in multi disciplinary care with varied MDT clinics, linking with Oxford healthcare for In-patient management of oncology, facial deformity and trauma.

Main duties of the job

  • Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients referred to the department
  • To share responsibility with colleagues for the day-to-day management of orthodontic services
  • Teaching and training of specialty registrars and other junior staff.
  • To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities
  • To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to take an active role in all aspects of the department including teaching and support of trainees in the department. There is a postgraduate centre with excellent library facilities. Both hospital sites are commutable and within walking/bus of the Chiltern line for Stoke Mandeville and the Metropolitan for Amersham site. Alternatively there is parking on both sites for staff.
