Job overview

Applications are invited for a new Locum Specialty Doctor post, fixed for 12 months, based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe. The successful candidate will be experienced in Emergency Medicine and be expected to deliver appropriate care within the Urgent and Emergency Care department.

The post holder will be a senior member of the Urgent and Emergency Care Service. Working autonomously, this Specialty grade doctor will take responsibility for the patients under their care and be able to manage a full range of presentations within the Service.

Full GMC registration with a Licence to Practise is required.

Interviews are planned to take place on the 5th November 2024.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will undertake independent assessment of patients, employing the necessary clinical decision skills to formulate appropriate management plans for the patients under their care. In addition, the appointee will provide senior level decision making to support junior doctors and clinical colleagues within the department.

Although working autonomously, the post holder will have the necessary understanding of their own limits and seek help when required. They will be responsible for adhering to the generic capabilities’ framework outlined nationally for the Specialty grade.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder/s will be expected to:

  • Work and build professional relationships with a range of clinicians, nursing teams and admin support
  • Contribute to the management of clinical risk by reporting clinical incidents and near misses
  • Ensure that record-keeping of medical staff meets both the Trust’s and the Division’s standards
  • Ensure that the post holder's practice and practice of junior staff complies with health and safety guidelines and that any deficiency in health and safety systems or documentation are reported to the manager of the area concerned
  • Attend training for health and safety purposes when required.
  • Deliver a team approach to care through the establishment of explicit lines of communication, ensuring that the roles and responsibilities of doctors and nursing staff are clearly defined and recorded to ensure clarity.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary forums to ensure that patients receive care appropriate to their needs.
