Job overview

We are looking to recruit a number of consultants, depending on expertise. Any subspecialty interest is welcomed; applications are particularly welcomed from those with body intervention, head & neck, and chest experience.

The successful candidate will join a Radiology Department at an exciting time of rapid growth and service development.

The candidate will provide general reporting for acute and cold cases and participate in the on-call rota. There is scope to bring or develop a further sub-specialty interest to complement existing expertise within the main Radiology Department.

The candidate will be welcomed into a well organised department providing a wide range of services both locally and across the region. We work collaboratively and supportively together and are always looking to improve the care for our patients.

Main duties of the job

Clinical

  • To provide a comprehensive, high quality imaging service to the Trust.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Participate in the development of the service.
  • Identify safeguarding issues and take appropriate action.
  • To comply with Trust Health and Safety policies and maintain a safe and healthy environment for all.
  • To have knowledge of and employ the basic principles of infection control practice.

Teaching

  • To provide clinical and educational supervision for doctors in training within the department.
  • To assist in the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
  • To organise and participate in teaching, examination and accreditation duties for undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity.

Quality Improvement

  • Participate in clinical audit, clinical governance and in CPD.
  • To initiate and be involved in agreed projects.
  • To implement audit and research findings as appropriate.
  • The post holder will be encouraged to pursue their research interests.

Policy & Planning

  • Contribute to the development of clinical and organisational protocols and guidelines.
  • Review and develop policies for clinical practice and effectiveness.
  • Participate in strategic planning for the service

Management & Audit

  • Participate in the management service by being an active member of the Division.
  • Attend the audit, governance and department meetings and help to implement the Trust's policy on clinical governance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is a whole-time post comprising 10 PAs per week (1.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) including a current on-call allowance of 1.5PA, which may be subject to change following diary exercises.

An annual review of duties including fixed commitments will take place with the Head of Service as part of the Job Plan process.

The person appointed will take their equal share in providing emergency cover and will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence.

All successful candidates will be provided with a home workstation. This will have access to the EMRAD network and would be eligible to join the network’s insourcing programme.

A hybrid work patten between home and onsite is encouraged with an average of one full day day spent working from home per week.

On Call

On call availability is currently 3% intensity supplement.

On call is currently a 1 in 13 rota with prospective cover. Weekdays are supported by teleradiology between the hours of 2000 and 0800. Weekend on call is supported by teleradiology between the hours of 1800 and 0800. Two radiology registrars support the on call on a 1 in 5 rota.

Residence

The appointees will be expected to maintain their private residences in contact with public telephone services and to reside within distance by road from the hospitals which comprises the Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to ensure that they are able to meet clinical commitments when on call.

Supporting Professional Activities (SPA)

The list of activities included in SPA is not limited to activities to support continuing professional development (CPD), but includes mandatory training, appraisal, revalidation, audit, job planning, departmental and personal administration, governance, education and training etc. All of the SPA activities will be required to support revalidation and professional development.

The nature, timing and site of all duties (Direct Clinical Care and SPA) may change and will be reviewed annually as part of the job planning exercise.

The expected activities of the job plan should be flexible within the weekly rota to accommodate departmental working arrangements. Mutual agreement will be reached between the appointee and their Service Director, with regard to scheduling, including SPA.
