Job overview

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine.

This is an exciting opportunity for an applicant to join an enthusiastic, supportive and dedicated team of respiratory consultants based at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

The post is for an initial 12 month period with the potential opportunity to extend or apply for a substantive consultant role at the end of the term.

The successful candidate will be committed to provide excellent clinical care and to work as part of a larger countywide team (currently of 11 consultants) providing the best Respiratory Medicine services we can to the Worcestershire population.

We welcome applications from high quality candidates who are experienced and enthusiastic about general respiratory acute inpatient and outpatient work. An interest in lung cancer is particularly welcomed but there is opportunity to contribute to other sub-specialist areas.

Main duties of the job

This post has a well balanced mix of inpatient and outpatient activities and attracts 10 PAs including Saturday respiratory ward rounds (1 in 6).

The department of respiratory medicine at Worcester Royal Hospital is made up of 7 consultants. Existing sub-specialist clinics/services include Lung Cancer, ILD, pleural disease, complex asthma, allergy, EBUS and Domiciliary ventilation and sleep medicine.

The department is very well supported in both the outpatient and inpatient setting by an excellent respiratory CNS team in many sub specialty areas and 4 nurse practitioners.

There is a well established triage pathway supported by radiology for referrals to the lung cancer service and many patients have a CNS telephone consultation in advance of a dedicated consultant clinic for those patients with suspected lung cancer. There are regular bronchoscopy lists across the county and an established EBUS and interventional radiology service. Depending on the successful candidate, bronchoscopy and EBUS lists will be available. There is a cancer centre on the Worcestershire Royal site allowing most cancer treatments including SABR and microwave ablation to be delivered locally.
