The Gender Identity Clinic (GIC) is the largest and oldest gender clinic in the UK, dating back to 1966. We accept referrals from all over the UK for adults with issues related to gender. We accept referrals for patients who are aged 17 years and older onto our waiting list. Patients will not be offered an appointment before their 18th birthday.
We are a multi-disciplinary team, including psychologists, psychiatrists, endocrinologists, speech and language therapists, and nurses. We work together to provide holistic gender care, focusing on the biological/medical, psychological and social aspects of gender.
The role of the Gender Clinical Lead Nurse provides clinical leadership and management to the GIC nurses with interface other gender clinics. The lead nurse will focus on the development of the GIC nursing profession and support quality improvement. They will also be responsible for the nursing pathway development, working alongside the Clinical Director This will involve helping to develop and deliver the clinical strategy through co-production with service users, carers and staff.
This role gives a fantastic opportunity to develop the nursing workforce within the service to enhance patient care and quality.
The main duties of the lead practitioner will be to support the Clinical Director, Nursing directorate, Associate Director of Quality Improvement and Clinical Governance and Clinical Operations Director to deliver the ambitious quality improvement projects and the clinical strategy.
* The lead nurse will be employed as a practicing clinician.
* Undertake clinical risk assessments, harm reviews, and management plans that ensure the patient accesses the appropriate secondary care service for their needs where indicated.
* Maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records in line with the Data Protection Act, relevant Trust Policies, and professional body recommendations.
* Participate in clinical audits.
* Lead and contribute to the evolving and transformative GIC clinical pathways this includes leading the delivery and governance of co-production of clinical pathways.
* Support the operations team in managing clinical financial and operational performance of nurses.
* Implementing clinical policies, both local and national, including the clinical strategy.
* Attend GIC Executive meeting, and Senior Leadership meetings as required.
* Support research projects, grow research capability and rapidly implement research findings.
* Manage relationships with partners, service users and carers.
